Macswarm vs Namespace macOS

Namespace is serious macOS infrastructure, bare metal Apple silicon billed by the minute, with runners, sandboxes for agents and devboxes. Macswarm is narrower on purpose.

The short version

Namespace bills macOS compute per minute: the smallest runner shape (4 vCPU, 7 GB) costs $0.04 a minute prepaid, $2.40 an hour, and larger shapes go up to $0.20 a minute. Devboxes for agents cost about $0.06 a minute (size M) or $0.12 (size L) by our arithmetic from their Devbox Minutes, plus storage. Macswarm sells Pod-hours: $99 a month for 300 hours on Pro, each hour running two to three agents with Xcode and pre-booted Simulators.

Side by side

Criterion Namespace macOS Macswarm
Price for an hour of macOS From $2.40 (4 vCPU, 7 GB runner, prepaid) to $12.00 (16 vCPU, 56 GB); overage 1.5x; devbox M about $3.60, L about $7.20 $0.33 inside Pro’s 300 hours, $0.40 extra on Pro, $0.30 on Team
What one unit runs One job, sandbox session or devbox 2 to 3 active agents, 2 concurrent builds, 3 to 4 Simulators
Hardware Bare-metal Apple M5 Max and M4 Pro, many shapes Dedicated Apple silicon Mac minis, one standard Pod size; a large Pod is planned
Products GitHub Actions runners, sandboxes for AI agents, devboxes, custom Mac instances with SSH and remote display Pods for Claude Code and Codex sessions
Plans Developer $0 pay as you go, Team $100, Business $250, Enterprise; Devbox Plus $250 Free (3 Pod-hours), Pro $99, Team $399, Enterprise from $3,000
Agent integrations Claude Code, Codex and Cursor shown running in sandboxes; Devin on macOS via Outposts Claude self-hosted environments and the OpenAI Agents API; sessions start from claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Slack or the Codex app
iOS Simulators for the agent Available on the instance; you wire them up Pre-booted, leased per agent, driven through XcodeBuildMCP
Access SSH and remote display on custom instances No SSH; dashboard with logs and screenshots

Where the money goes

For CI, Namespace’s per-minute runners are a fair deal and well below GitHub’s macOS rates. For agents, the comparison is the unit: a Namespace devbox hosts one agent session, so three agents for one developer are three devboxes, roughly $10.80 an hour at size M. A Macswarm Pod hosts those three agents for one Pod-hour, $0.33 to $0.40.

If your agents need big machines, 16 cores and 56 GB for a huge build, Namespace has the shapes and Macswarm does not yet.

When Namespace is the better choice

  • You want a broad macOS platform: runners, sandboxes and devboxes under one account, with API and CLI control.
  • You need large shapes, SSH, persistent volumes or a custom Mac instance you administer.
  • Your agents are Cursor cloud agents or Devin, which Namespace supports directly.
  • You already pay for Namespace Linux compute and want one bill.

When Macswarm is the better choice

  • Claude Code or Codex agents that need to build and drive an iOS app, several at once, for one developer.
  • A flat monthly plan with included hours rather than per-minute metering across shapes.
  • No instances to administer and nothing left on a machine between sessions.
  • EU or US region chosen per environment, with an audit log on Team.
