NoMac vs Macswarm: agent Mac pricing and access

NoMac offers prepaid Mac sessions with root access and SSH; Macswarm offers monthly Pod-hour plans with managed build queues and pre-booted Simulators for Claude Code and Codex. Choose by session frequency, access needs, persistence and region. Compare consumed compute credit with the cash payment each plan requires.

How do NoMac and Macswarm differ?

NoMac rents a root-access Mac by the minute: $0.80 an hour, billed by the minute with a one-minute minimum, from $10 of prepaid credit that never expires, with a $5 default cap per session (nomac.app, checked 25 Oct 2026). The session comes with Xcode, Homebrew and the iOS Simulator, accepts any agent over MCP, CLI, API or SSH, and keeps a 20 GB encrypted drive across sessions. Macswarm bills runtime for a Pod with managed build and Simulator sharing for one developer’s agents: the Latest Xcode, three to four pre-booted Simulators, Claude Code and Codex, and no SSH. Pro costs $99 a month for 300 Pod-hours with four Pods at a time, then $0.40 per extra Pod-hour; $0.33 per Pod-hour is the effective rate only when all 300 included hours are used, and the ten minutes after each session block are billed. Choose by session frequency, access needs, persistence and region, and compare consumed compute credit with the cash each plan requires. Model usage is billed separately on both.

What do occasional and daily agent sessions cost?

These are list-price calculations, not performance benchmarks. Different machine shapes, billing conditions and workflows can change the cost of completing the same task. Model-provider charges are outside this compute-only comparison; neither service includes them.

Occasional use. Assume one agent needs a Mac for twenty minutes a day on 22 days: about 7.3 hours a month. The light-use example consumes about $5.87 of credit on NoMac at $0.80 an hour (nomac.app, checked 25 Oct 2026); the minimum initial payment is $10, and what is not consumed stays on the account. On Macswarm, Free covers the first 3 Pod-hours once, on one Pod; after that the next step is Pro at $99 a month, even when most of its 300 included hours go unused. Twenty-two separate session blocks each carry ten billed minutes after the session, so the same pattern uses about 11 Pod-hours. NoMac costs far less here. NoMac advertises a default $5 cap per session (nomac.app, checked 25 Oct 2026). Confirm the configured cap before starting work; multiple sessions can consume more credit.

Daily use. Assume one developer runs three agents for four hours a day on 22 days: 88 active hours. On NoMac, if the three agents share one session, an allocation this page assumes and the checked page does not describe, that consumes about $70.40 of credit; if each agent gets its own session, another assumption, it is 264 hours and about $211.20. NoMac lists a 5% to 20% bonus on larger top-ups (nomac.app, checked 25 Oct 2026); the thresholds are not stated on the checked page, so no bonus is applied here. On Macswarm, with one session block per day, this example uses about 91.7 Pod-hours including the shutdown interval, still within Pro’s 300 for $99. Pro allows four Pods at a time in total; if one is running, capacity remains for three more. The build queue and Simulator leases are managed on the Pod; on NoMac you arrange how agents share a session yourself. Equal hours on differently sized machines are not equal work, and this example does not claim the two services finish the same tasks in the same time.

Compare actual monthly Pod runtime, prepaid credit terms and the need for managed build sharing; Pro costs $99 even when most included hours go unused. Team’s $0.27 per Pod-hour applies only when all 1,500 of its included hours are consumed; its extra hours are $0.30.

Which Claude and OpenAI plans work with Macswarm?

Claude self-hosted environments require a Claude Team or Enterprise organization and are in public beta. Claude Pro and Max users can start a Pod on Macswarm Free or Pro and sign in to Claude Code inside it. Codex uses the OpenAI Agents API webhook with API access. Model usage is billed separately. The FAQ lists which Claude plans work; setup is in the Claude Code quickstart and the Codex quickstart, and running Claude Code on a cloud Mac walks through a first session. The plan limits are in Limits and queues and on the pricing page.

When is NoMac the better choice?

  • The agent needs a Mac briefly and rarely: a signed build, a Simulator run. $10 of credit gets you started and a minute is the unit (nomac.app, checked 25 Oct 2026).
  • You want to ship to TestFlight or App Review from an agent and own no Mac at all.
  • The agent needs root, SSH, its own daemons or a persistent drive with its tooling on it.
  • Your agent is not Claude Code or Codex, or it runs on Linux and calls a Mac as a tool over MCP, CLI or the API.
  • A default per-session cap on spend matters more than a monthly allowance.

When is Macswarm the better choice?

  • Several agents work on one developer’s project at the same time and should share a Pod, with builds queued and Simulators leased rather than fought over.
  • Pro costs $99 a month; $0.33 per Pod-hour is the effective rate only when all 300 included hours are used. Choose Macswarm when its managed build queue, Simulator leases and chosen EU or US region fit the workflow; several agents alone do not establish a lower bill.
  • The Macs must be in the EU or the US, chosen per environment.
  • Pods accept no inbound connections. Customers and Macswarm staff have no SSH or screen-sharing access to a running customer Pod. Security has the controls; the privacy policy has log and screenshot retention.
  • A team needs an audit log, usage by developer, SSO/SAML or invoice billing: Team at $399 a month, or Enterprise from $3,000 a month with reserved Macs and EU or US by contract. Contact us: info@macswarm.com.

  • NoMac rate, billing unit, credit, session cap, top-up bonus range, money-back terms, installed software, agent connections, access model, shipping, persistent drive and use restriction: nomac.app, checked 25 October 2026. Regions, team features, bonus thresholds and multi-agent sharing are not stated on that page.
