MacinCloud or Macswarm: a Mac server by the day or month, or Pod-hours
MacinCloud rents access to Mac servers for people: a remote desktop by the day or the month, with or without admin rights. Macswarm rents Pod-hours to coding agents: a macOS VM with the Latest Xcode and pre-booted Simulators that one developer's Claude Code and Codex sessions share. This page sets the plans side by side and says where each fits.
Should you use MacinCloud or Macswarm?
Use MacinCloud when a person needs a Mac desktop over the network, for a day or a month, to use Xcode by hand; use Macswarm when Claude Code or Codex agents need a Mac to build and test in during their sessions. MacinCloud’s plan page lists three plans: Pay-As-You-Go from $4 a day, billed daily with automatic refill, and Managed Server from $25 a month on a weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly cycle, both on a physical Mac and both without admin or root access, with a 24-hour trial for first-time Managed Server users; and Dedicated Server from $49 a month, an instance on a physical Mac server with full admin and root access and no trial (checkout.macincloud.com, checked 27 Oct 2026). MacinCloud’s main site did not answer our automated requests on that date, so the hardware behind each plan and the Build Server plans are not listed here; check them on the vendor’s site. Macswarm bills Pod-hours: Free is 3 Pod-hours once, Pro $99 a month for 300 with up to four Pods at a time, then $0.40 per extra Pod-hour, Team $399 for 1,500 and up to ten Pods, then $0.30, and Enterprise reserves Macs from $3,000 a month. A Pod is a macOS VM with the Latest Xcode, three to four pre-booted Simulators, Claude Code, Codex and XcodeBuildMCP, shared by two to three of one developer’s agents, with no SSH or desktop, and destroyed ten minutes after its last session; those ten minutes are billed.
Side by side
| Criterion | MacinCloud | Macswarm |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Access to a Mac server: a seat on a shared physical Mac (Pay-As-You-Go, Managed Server) or an instance on a physical Mac server with admin rights (Dedicated Server) | A Pod: a macOS VM on shared Apple silicon on Free, Pro and Team, two Pods per machine; dedicated Macs on Enterprise |
| Price | Pay-As-You-Go from $4 a day; Managed Server from $25 a month; Dedicated Server from $49 a month | Free: 3 Pod-hours once. Pro: $99 a month for 300 Pod-hours, then $0.40. Team: $399 for 1,500, then $0.30. Enterprise: from $3,000 a month |
| Billing unit | A day with automatic refill, or a weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly cycle | Second, while a Pod runs, including the ten minutes after the last session |
| Free to start | A 24-hour trial for first-time Managed Server users; no trial on Dedicated Server | 3 Pod-hours, once, no card |
| Admin access | None on Pay-As-You-Go and Managed Server; full admin and root on Dedicated Server | None: no SSH, no desktop; agents run inside and you watch through the dashboard and the pull request |
| Who drives it | A person, over remote desktop | Claude Code through a self-hosted environment, Codex through the Agents API webhook, two to three agents per Pod |
| Xcode and Simulators | Yours to use on the server; versions and Simulator setup per plan are on the vendor’s site | The Latest Xcode, current and previous iOS runtimes, 3 to 4 pre-booted Simulators leased per agent, XcodeBuildMCP |
| State between sessions | Your account on the server persists for the plan’s term | Nothing; a fresh clone per Pod and a rescue branch for leftover changes |
| Region | Not stated on the plan page | EU (Netherlands) or US, chosen per environment |

Where the money goes
A person who uses Xcode by hand on a cloud Mac a few days a month pays MacinCloud from $4 a day; a month of steady use is a Managed Server from $25, or a Dedicated Server from $49 if you need to install software as an administrator. Those are seats for a human at a remote desktop, and nothing on Macswarm is cheaper for that job: Free covers 3 Pod-hours once, and Pro is $99 whether you use 30 Pod-hours or 300.
The comparison turns when the user is an agent. A developer whose Claude Code or Codex sessions run about 90 Pod-hours a month, four hours a day for 22 days with the ten-minute shutdowns, stays inside Pro’s 300 hours at $99, with two to three agents sharing each Pod, a two-slot build queue and Simulators already booted; three such developers use about 270 Pod-hours on the same $99. Doing the same on MacinCloud means a Dedicated Server seat per developer, from $49 a month each, plus installing and connecting the agents and keeping Xcode current yourself; whether the starting price covers a machine that can carry several agents is not stated on the plan page. These are list-price calculations from the pages linked above, not performance benchmarks.
When MacinCloud is the better choice
- A person, not an agent, needs a Mac desktop over the network: to open Xcode, sign in to accounts, or use the Mac as a workstation from Windows or Linux.
- You want the lowest entry price for occasional use, from $4 a day, with no monthly plan.
- You need a Mac server for weeks or months with your files and account on it between sessions.
- You want to administer the machine yourself, on the Dedicated Server plan with root access.
When Macswarm is the better choice
- Claude Code or Codex sessions that build, launch and tap through an iOS app on a Mac, with the Latest Xcode and Simulators ready and nothing to install.
- Several agents in parallel for one developer, sharing one Pod’s build queue and Simulator pool, billed per Pod-hour rather than per seat.
- A session that starts in claude.ai, Slack or the Codex app and needs a Mac to run on, without a desktop anyone has to drive.
- Isolation by construction: a fresh clone per Pod, never reused across customers, destroyed after the session, EU or US chosen per environment; an agency keeps one environment per client (Cloud Macs for iOS agencies).
Try a Pod
No card. Connect Claude Code or Codex and the first Pod boots from the warm pool with Xcode and Simulators ready.
